CAR REPAIR
BoyRad Goodyear on Sawmill Road in Dublin Ohio (614-766-1228). Jennifer is the manager – tell her “Dave the Wise Dad” sent you & you’ll have instant friends. They seem to do almost everything except glass, transmission & very invasive engine repair. Get the Goodyear credit card & get double the rebate when you buy tires (maybe only on Goodyear tires?) – but Goodyear “Weather Ready” tires are the best tires in bad weather short of a true snow tire I believe.
COMPUTERS (Laptop/Desktop)
I would never buy a computer anywhere but Staples – because there you can sign up for their “Support Package” – which allows you to call their 24/7 Tek support – who can login to your computer and fix things for you. If you only buy the 2-year support package – you may wish you’d bought the 4-year package. I don’t buy the “accident protection” because I’m careful with computers. The Tek support is through “Assurion” – who I’ve had great experience with. I would even buy from Staples if I lived in a state without any Staples stores (LA, MS) – because you can ship it back if you have a major problem. It doesn’t seem to matter much which brand you buy (Lenovo, Asus, HP, etc.) – except I’ve had bad experience with Dell.
If you’re near the Staples store in Orem Utah (336 E University Pkwy, Orem, UT 84058) there’s a Tek there (Austin Morris) who’s very helpful & very knowledgeable!
INSURANCE – Home/Auto
Erie Insurance! I found the Consumer Reports article of Nov. 2019 to be mostly accurate. At the time only 3 insurers covered repair of water/gas/sewer pipes under your lawn. If you ask your agent if you’re covered for a water line break – they typically say “Of course you’re covered if a water line breaks & floods your house.” You need to pin them down by saying “No, I’m asking if you pay to repair the water line under the lawn.” It typically costs $10-15K to repair. Erie serves 12 states: (NY, NC, OH, PA, TE, VA, WV, WI) & the District of Columbia. Amica Ins. seems to be the best – but is expensive. If I could not get Erie – then I would buy American Family Ins. – but Erie is my 1st choice. All 3 companies cover the pipes under the lawn. Other insurance companies are catching on that this is a feature customers want – so some other insurance companies may have added this type of coverage.
